Russian drama theater named after M. Gorkiy is preparing a play to the 20th anniversary of Astana

Within the framework of the State program “Rukhani zhangyru” State Academic Russian drama theater named after M. Gorkiy begins to staging the legendary play of the author – “The Last”. The performance is timed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Astana and the 150th anniversary from the birth of the great Russian writer Maxim Gorkiy.

The theater has the name of a brilliant classic from 1959 and the play “The Last” written by M. Gorkiy in 1908, for its 110-year history was staged three times in the theater: in 1940,1955 and in 1980. Now it is strange to convince others that Maxim Gorkiy is the most urgent from the galaxy of great Russian classics, but this occupation is necessary. Today, the classic lives his second birth in the theatrical world. Moreover, the play “The Last” can be safely called “biblical” on the subject’s scale, two layers of the event series, depth and severity of the conflict, the height of Gorkiy’s moral position.

The play is shocked by the relevancy, up to events outside the family, when the characters face the same problems, but of a wider public scale. Gorkiy seemed to foresee today’s global shift of the entire world order. What is the root of the evil that disfigures society? Is it a man? Here everyone has something to think about.

The European master of theatrical art, the art director of the Russian drama theater of Lithuania, the laureate of the State Prize of the USSR, the State Prize of Lithuania, the winner of the Golden Cross of the stage and the National Prize – Yonas Vaitkus is invited for the jubilee direction in all respects. Yonas Vaitkus is already well-known to the spectator by Gorkiy performance “The Pagans”.

The famous stage director will stay in Astana from January 16 to 22, 2018. Yonas Vaitkus works with painters, artists and technical services of the theater, and also participates in the distribution of roles.
