Presentation of the book about Baluan Sholak will take place in Astana

The Directorate for preservation of historical and cultural heritage monuments and sites of Astana city Akimat will present “Baluan Sholak” book of the honored artist of the Republic of Kazakhstan Serik Ospanov. The written work narrates about little-known facts from the life of a folk akyn, composer, singer, who skillfully played the dombra and was a famous wrestler. This book makes a great contribution to the study of Kazakh culture, history and, undoubtedly, contributes to the people’s enlightenment within the framework of the President’s program “Rukhani zhangyru”.

For example, in the book the author mentions the personal feelings of Baluan Sholak, his wife and love mate by the name of Galiya Tileubekkyzy, to whom the wrestler dedicated 6 songs, about his blessing to 15-year-old Kenen and many other interesting information about the life of the legendary character.

According to the data survived in the archives, Baluan Sholak was born on January 19, 1859 and died in December 1918, just one month to go before his 60th birthday. Baluan Sholak possessed an incredible power and at the age of 20 years, he won over then-noted strong man Ivan Karon. He also set an absolute world record by lifting a weight of 51 puds (816 kg) at the fair. These and many other stories about the famous Kazakh wrestler who also was talented in singing, composition of melodies and in circus art are contained in the book that will be presented.

Famous state and public figures of the Republic of Kazakhstan Omirbek Baigeldy, Myrzatay Zholdasbekov, honored artists and figures of Kazakhstan Kapash Kulysheva, Aitbek Nygyzbayev, kuishy Zhangali Zhuzbay, as well as descendants of Baluan Sholak will take part in the event.
